INSTRUMENTATION AND DATA ANALYSIS IN MARINE SCIENCES (250575) – Course 2025/26 PDF

Activities

This field activity will be carried out in the surroundings of the Obsea underwater observatory, 4km from the coast of Vilanova i la Geltrú. The activity will consist of planning a small campaign with the aim of obtaining different parameters of the water column using a CTD, and the subsequent download of data, analysis of results and preparation of the report.

Dedication

2h

This field activity consists of the use of Drifters to carry out current measurements. By boat the students will launch Drifters in the Obsea area, off the coast of Vilanova. Their trajectories will be monitored in real time, and their subsequent recovery from the boat. Finally, the students will process the data to generate maps of trajectories and estimate of current measurements, and they will compare them with the fixed AWAC current meter installed in obsea.

Dedication

2h

This field activity aims to deploy a hydrophone at sea from the boat to acquire underwater sound data. An underwater sound generation system will be used as the data source. Students will then download the instrument data and verify its integrity.
